March 11, 1986 Los Angeles CA
Date: March, 11, 1986
Length: 45 minutes
Meditation/Yoga: yes/no
Location: Los Angeles, CA
This is a practical workshop. The duty of the negative mind...to negate...to protection. Seek God’s protection and give....accept the unknown, the infinite, accept your gift of life...or live in your negative mind.
Yep, I just wrote that summary...certainly seems that Yogi Bhajan’s talks are integrated and build and interweave with all of his teachings...cause my yogi mind goes...what about my negative mind...that what its suppose to do and it does it really well (I am guessing others as well) yet seem to be in need of another facet to make it work correctly.
He said the 5 rasas, need 5 outlets...no way to stop them, they always want more...when mind rules your ability to get to infinite is compromised. Your best watch the lecture, I don’t want to sound to negative :)
In God we trust. Feel God with us. Confirm God in us.
He told a wonderful story about a husband and wife about accepting the gifts of each other...live and let live...and not attempting to control or be jealous or conquer your partner...the was 1986 and in this story the women was the “the saint” and the man was “learning”.
One of the take aways from this lecture was the importance of story telling to learning. He a great storyteller, not so much just for stories but how he weaves them into his lectures.
The next story was about a saint and his student...this time the man was the “saint” and the woman was “learning”.
He ended with a short meditation. I will call it accepting the gift of life, accepting the gift of your birth. In the lecture he mentioned the challenge of religion, yoga, God...if our basic life is compromised. This was almost a re-birthing meditation.
Hands in front of heart center, facing each other and relaxed (fingers are slightly apart, fingers pointing up.)
Left hand remains this way, right hands fingertips touch the mounds of the palm of the left hand (just below each finger). Right hand fingers bent and relaxed...so the finger can touch.
Thumbs touch on side of thumbs. When thumbs touch on side it puts the hands in certain positions...where the hands are still facing each other, the left hand higher then right and the right hands finger across from the left palm. Base of hands do not touch. (eventually, I will learn how to post pictures)
Breath is inhale throat, exhale throat. Not mouth breath, and not too strong...you will know as throat breath is intense.
About 3 minutes of this breathe...
...then inhale, hold...go back to the first day of your life, the first day, your were just born...consolidate your mind and body (pratayahar)...hold about 30 seconds. Repeat twice more.
Accept the gift of you life, there is nothing else needed.

FAQ and Fine Print
1) Where do we get/see/look at/purchase the audio and video lectures? (please also read #2)
There are two main sources for the lectures:
KRI- http://www.kriteachings.org/
Ancient Healing Ways- http://www.a-healing.com/.
In what format, which ones, etc. etc. is in constant change so you will need to visit their sites and call them for details.
I...or rather our local Kundalini Yoga and Sikh Dharma community purchased our years ago. The lectures were recorded and the next week available for sale. Yes, even while Yogi Bhajan was alive we were listening and watching his lectures. Your local Kundalini Yoga or Sikh Dharma community may have done the same. I noticed that both Yoga West in Los Angeles, CA and Vancouver, BC both have a video class.
2) Yogi Bhajan was also a Sikh, what about those lectures?
Yes, he was also known as Siri Singh Sahib Bhai Sahib Harbhajan Singh Khalsa Yogi ji. Kundalini Yoga and Sikh Dharma are closely connected and intertwined.
A friend suggested that I review lectures that are already on line both yoga and Sikh, I will be getting to that soon, lots going on! SikhNet is another wonderful site for Yogi Bhajan's teachings.
SikhNet: http://www.sikhnet.com/
3) I noticed that your explanation of the lecture or meditation is different then the official version?
Your commentary is welcomed, provided you listen or watch the original unedited lecture. Official versions are necessary yet that is not my intention or role.
4) What is your connection to Yogi Bhajan?
My Kundalini Yoga and Meditation practice started in 1974 and my Sikh Dharma practice started in 1978. I have been at it ever since...my personal mantra is "participate, share and contribute."
