Length: 45 minutes
Meditation/Yoga: meditation and yoga
Location: Los Angeles, CA
The class was in Los Angeles, California, in the morning, just before people went to work. It was a combined yoga class and meditation. I believe the yoga class is in one of the manuals, body angles.
The meditation is called Ganapati or Ganesh. I picked this as my first because it has my name; Ganesh and I wanted a lecture and meditation that has some deep connection. In essence, each of us has a meditation with our name on it, whether for 40 days, 90 days, 120 days, 1,000 days or a lifetime.
In the Aquarian Age, meditation will be a natural aspect of our life. We will value meditation and practice daily.
When Yogi Bhajan shared this meditation he told a wonderful story about Ganesh and his rat. I will let Yogi Bhajan tell the full story. As it relate to the why of doing this meditation; the impossible become possible. In cosmological terms; this meditation covers our samskara, karmas, and dharmas.
Since the class was in the morning before work, it was only 45 minutes long...including the yoga set so I won’t comment much longer.
One of the most important aspects of watching Yogi Bhajan teach...and I believe a lesson for us in how we teach other and ourselves...is how he keeps to the rules and boundaries of each meditation, kriya, posture yet directs the class so each of us can experience. An experience that no one can take away from us.
In this class I found it moving how he kept rhythm with the soft sound of the gong.
Hands are on the knee. Touching the tips of each finger to thumb in rhythm with the mantra.
The mantra is Sa Ta Na Ma Ra Ma Da Sa Sa Se So Hung.
The eye are closed, mantra is repeated out loud, in simple tone.
In the words of Yogi Bhajan: “from the heart”
